Hi readers we are learning about filtering so here is what I learnt.

Filtering is separating different sized particles out of a mixture. You can not filter soluble particles.

Hypothesis: I think the colour will turn purple.

Method:

1. Pour approximately 50mL of copper sulfate solution into a beaker.

2. Add the same volume of sodium carbonate solution. A reaction will happen, you should see a cloudy blue precipitate form. Called copper carbonate.

3. Watch demo then fold filter paper to fit inside the funnel

4. Place the funnel with the filter paper inside of it, into the mouth of a conical flask.

5. Stir the mixture in the beaker, then carefully pour it into the funnel.

6. Observe what happened.

Inspirational Kiwi Blog

Hi, readers for the past few weeks we have been doing an essay about an inspirational New Zealander who changed something. I chose Jonah Lomu as he turned rugby professional In 1995 so here is my work.

Jonah Lomu is the best rugby player ever and I refuse to hear otherwise. His full name is Jonah Tali Lomu and he was born in South Auckland on 12 May 1975 to a family of six. Two brothers and two sisters. He was huge, when he was 12 he looked like he was 18 and was fast too, being able to run the 100 metres in 10.5 seconds. When he was young he played athletics in the summer and rugby league in the winter. He only just started playing rugby union in high school when he went to Wesley College.

He played rugby for Wesley College and was first a lock who then moved to the loose forwards and was unstoppable to bring down. He then represented NZ in the national under 19 side in 1993. Then the under 21s the following year. He impressed so much and was called up for the Hong Kong sevens to represent NZ. Then head coach of the All Blacks Laurie Mains liked what he saw and called Lomu up for his first cap against France making him the youngest ever All Black aged 19 years and 45 days. Despite only having two caps to his name and not impressing, Lomu was called up for the world cup and scored 2 tries in the first game against Ireland. Scored one against Scotland in the quarter-final then unbelievably single-handedly destroyed England in the semis scoring four tries. Scoring the try of the tournament where he caught a bad pass, zoomed past two English players, was ankle tapped but didn’t fall over then ran over Mike Catt.

Also that year he was diagnosed with Nephrotic Syndrome which was a really bad kidney disease that affected the rest of his playing career and then wider life. After the performances, he put in the world cup NZ rugby knew that they needed to keep him so they created a tournament with SANZAAR called super rugby consisting of NZ teams, Aussie teams and South African teams. For tests, they also created a tri-nations tournament so they could maximise Lomu’s potential. At the 1999 world cup Jonah went rampant again and this time scored 8 tries in the tournament. In 2000 the game of the century was played against Australia and Jonah was a massive hand in the win, when the all blacks went 3 tries up in the space of five minutes but then the Aussies clawed it back to 24 all at halftime. It looked to be over and the Aussies will win but Jonah got the ball and just ran through the defence to score the winner. Jonah played his last ever test for the All Blacks in 2002 aged just 27 because of his ongoing kidney problem. He then attempted a comeback but was never called up for the All Blacks again.

Lomu achieved several feats and broke a lot of records in the process of his career. He was the youngest ever All Black to play his first game and still is. He has gotten the most ever tries in world cup tournaments with 15 tied with Bryan Habana he’s also gotten the most ever tries in 1 tournament (8) tied again with Habana and Julian Savea. He was the first-ever All-Black to score 4 tries against England. He was the youngest ever player to score 10 test match tries and the first to score 12 in a year. In 63 tests for all blacks, he scored 37 tries, in 2001 he helped New Zealand to win the Rugby World Cup Sevens. He was inducted into the international rugby hall of fame and the world rugby hall of fame. He got many sponsorships along the way, including Adidas and Mcdonalds earning millions of dollars through it, including a brief period a burger named after him. He also played for the Blues, Chiefs and the Hurricanes.

He was married three times and with his last wife, Nadene Quirk, he had two kids called Dhyreille and Brayley. In 2003 he won the New Zealand Order of Merit due to being a huge advocate to health charities such as Kidney Kids. On 18 November 2015, not so long after the world cup he died of a heart attack linked to a kidney failure at the age of 40. Tributes were pouring worldwide, such as David Beckham saying how nice of a man Jonah was and was privileged to meet him. Andrew Mehrtens was greatly saddened by the loss of not just his teammate but also his friend. Manly Rugby Club tweeted out about the loss of this rugby phenomenon. The Argentina National team even all wore number 11 jerseys before their game to pay respects. 10,000 people poured onto Eden Park for Jonah’s Memorial and former and current All Blacks performed one final haka in his name.

Blog reflection for cup game

My group came 2nd by a second and we worked well as a team.

Types of government

Democracy means power by the people. New Zealand is a democratic country. I like democracy because it gives people a say in what happens.

Monarchy is one person at the head of it is passed on by blood. The United Kingdom is a country ruled by a monarchy. I don't like this because if the wrong person is in charge, that country could be doomed.

Dictatorship is when one person or a small group can do anything without limitations. China is a dictatorship country. I don't like this because if they make one bad decision no one would've had to correct it.

Communism is when everything is commonly owned. China is also a communistic country. This could lead to countries hating themselves because some people might want to be unique and poor people get good things whilst rich people don't get good things for their wealth.

Totalitarianism is when there's only one political party. Nazi Germany used this sort of government. I don't like this government because as Nazi and Hitler did they had complete control and other countries had to stop them.

Oligarchy is when there's a small group of people who hold all the power. The USA is an Oligarchy government. I don't really like this government because people don't really get a say in what's happening and the main people tend to think of themselves first before others.

Anarchy is when there's no government or authorities. South Africa used to be an anarchy government. I don't like this government because I think there should be governments so no bad calls can happen and countries can be happy with their decisions.

Mrs Costello Maths

In 9HUR4 for maths with Mrs Costelllo, we did quite a bit of work but my favourite so far has been the angles work we've done so far here is a photo. I liked it because angles are really fun and easy once you understand it.

Week 4 - Do Now

Topic: Rugby is the most definitive sport in Aotearoa
I agree with rugby being the most definitive sport in Aotearoa because if you go overseas and you tell someone you're a New Zealander they instantly think and then say All Blacks.

Great Job to Matangi

You put in a lot of effort to EJ

BIO BLOG FOR EXPERIMENT

We did an experiment to see whose sugar would dissolve first with all the beakers filled at 100 ml. One was with cold water, one had hot water and the last one had hot water is stirred. The last one dissolved first because the hot water and the sugar being stirred fastened the process.

Week 4 - Do Now

Topic: Schools should have more mufti days.

I disagree with this schools should have more mufti days because the whole purpose of mufti days is to donate to charities and for some families, money is a little tight and producing a $1 coin is a bit tricky on its own. Also, some kids might not be able to afford nice clothes and if they see some of their friends rocking up wearing nice clothes more frequently they might feel a little down. Lastly, if there are more mufti days then the whole sense of excitement for mufti days will just be gone. So in conclusion, I think that the amount of mufti days we have at school is just perfect.

Interpersonal Skills Blog

The IP skill that I used today was verbal and Non-verbal Communication.

Using this IP skill helped with the activity otherwise we couldn't be able to have effective communication.

Today I worked well with Enosh as we had effective communication but we just couldn't draw.

If I got to do the activity again I would try and draw the picture better than I did last time.

I worked at level 2 behaviour on Hellions behaviour model because I tried my hardest to draw and to communicate as effectively as I can.

Captain Holt

Captain Holt is the captain of the 99th precinct and he’s the leader of the Brooklyn 99 precinct and a father figure to all the detectives. The positive traits about him were that he made an effort to connect to the squad. He helps people get on the right path to their full potential. He leads from the front and takes care f his detectives. He helps them when in need. In 2013 he joined the 99th precinct. In 2014 he steps down from Brooklyn 99. In 2015 he’s reinstated as captain. In 2017 he makes a promise to a drug lord to get some of his crew back. Later that year is considered to be commissioner of the police. In 2018 he is demoted to a patrolman for 6 months. In 2019 he tries to adjust to being a uniformed officer. He is invited to the new captain’s house where he tries to sabotage the party. He is then reinstated as the captain of the 99. At the end of season 7, he then tries to take down commissioner Kelly because commissioner Kelly was destroying the NYPD.

I think leaders need to take care of the people they're leading and taking on board their answers. So in my opinion Captain Holt is a great leader.

Week 3 - Do Now

Topic: Cats are Better than Dogs

I agree with this statement as I have a cat and he is the best. First of all, dogs cost a lot of money to not just buy them but to maintain them. You have to buy them a dog house as well as dog food you also have to take them for walks every single day and also you have to clean up their poo after them. With cats, however, they are a lot of fun to play with don't nearly cost as much as dogs do. Lastly, cats have a higher average lifespan than dogs do so do you want to have fun with a cat for a long time or do you want to have fun with a dog for a not so long time.

Week 2 Do Now

Topic: School Uniform Should Not Be Mandatory

I disagree with this topic. After all, if it was mufti then kids who do not have nice clothes will feel bad about themselves because kids will rock up wearing branded stuff. Also uniform is a representation of this school so it's like you belong to this school. So, in conclusion, I think School UNiforms should be worn at school.

Week 2 - Do Now

Topic: Elephants Are The Greatest Animal Of All Time

Elephants are not the greatest animal of all time because they are massive and are herbivores. If you're something that massive then surely you need to be a carnivore then everyone would be scared of you. They also have really good memories but could be pretty bad in some instances because your brain would hurt really bad. Also, they're scared of rats like how are you something that big but can be scared of something that little it just doesn't make sense. They've also killed people before they didn't get eaten but instead stood on because all their weight would crush a human out of existence. So, in conclusion, I think that they are not the most superior of all time that honour would have to go to the Dolphins.

Biology - Rat Dissection

In biology on Tuesday, we dissected a rat because we needed to see all the organs and bones in a rat.

We cut open its chest and found its sternum we then cut the sternum to find its heart and then lungs. Once we were done we moved down to find the large intestine, small intestine and stomach. Once we cut open the rat the class began to stink and then not so long later it was a death trap.

100 Word Challenge - Holiday Happenings

In the holidays my grandparents, little brother and I went to the 4 and a half star Copthorne Hotel in Masterton. It was a marvellous and well-kept hotel. It had a pool table which we played on heaps. One of the more memorable times was on the second day against my brother. I started really well and was doing really well but the bozo that I am, I hit the black ball in before all my balls and the Kerplunk sound meant that Harry had beat me. It was outrageous. I thought I was going to win. Fate decided otherwise.

Week 1 Do Now

Topic: School holidays should only be 1 week long.

I disagree with this statement because the school holidays are the only time I get to see my Gran and Pop who live in Kapiti Coast. It's not just me heaps of people can only see a relative of theirs in the holidays and just 1 week isn't enough time to spend with them after a 10-week separation. Also, Kiwi kids need a break from school, especially those who've got commitments after school like my rugby. Also, the holidays are a chance for kids to refresh their brains from the long terms. So in conclusion I think that kids deserve a well-earned rest after the busy terms that they encounter and all the learning that comes with it.

Term 1 Food

In food, we made and ate several different things including Anzac biscuits, Ginger Gems and many more. They all had a brilliant texture and a really nice feel in your mouth.

Science at the surface

In period 1 today we read a book of our choice (I chose Science at the circus) and then we had to answer the questions that the sheet that was connecting to that book was asking so this is mine.

Eye-catching show
Astounding music
Magnificient stunts
Unbelievable moves
Shocking acrobats
Fragile plates

1. Colourful------------Radiant
2. Talented--------------Skilled
3. Stunning-------------Extraordinary
4. Masterful------------Commanding
5. Jolly------------------Cheerful
6. Trained---------------Accomplice

I found it interesting that there was more to circus performing than you would think there is.
