Do Now - Hurricanes

Hi readers, in English for lockdown I'm having to do a blog post about hurricanes. So here it is. Hurricanes are formed in the warm waters near the equator and it needs to be at least 80 degrees Fahrenheit or 26 degrees celsius. Hurricanes in the US usually come from Africa. In September is when the Hurricanes are the strongest all year. Curacao doesn't usually hurricanes because it's warmer than the other islands in the Caribbean. The last hurricane was recorded in Curacao on September 23, 1877.

Human Rights

In social studies for lockdown, we had to learn about human rights. The most interesting thing I've learned is that there used to be a time when there were no human rights. I want to know what triggered human rights to start. This slide is where all my human rights learning is.

Social Studies

In social studies, we have been learning about communities people have been prejudice against and these are The Muslim community, the LGBT+ community, the Pasifika community, the Asian community, and the disabled community. I'm doing the Muslim, Asian, and disabled.

Muslim Community: The Muslim community has always experienced racism as they aren't white which is just wrong. Sadly, however, someone took it to violence when on March 15th, 2019 50 people were killed at a mosque, Most of them Muslim. Instead of being too scared to speak multiple people spoke out about the attack, but not just the attack. But experiencing prejudiced people because they weren't the same colour of skin.

Asian Community: Asians are just like us but yet some people believe that they aren't because just like Muslim people aren't the same colour as us. They've experienced a lot more racism as some people believe that they started Covid 19 and they've been not just verbally abused but some people have taken to violence. They've also experienced stereotypical people who think that all Asians do is being really smart at maths or doing kung fu.

Disabled Community: People who are disabled get stereotyped but also verbally abused. They get stereotyped that they can't do anything and always need peoples help which isn't true. In fact, they can do stuff without peoples help. Anyway, everyone needs help not just people who are disabled. They also get slurred with names and told that they can't do anything special and people are just being mean to them. They get called names like Cripple and other mean names.

Week 5 - Learn at home task board - Points of view

Timothy:

Timothy must feel bad for Phillip as he was looking after him but Phillip still turned blind and he might feel as if it was his fault. He'll also feel sad as the plane flew past them and he was convinced that it will see them and he might feel hungry and thirsty because they have to ration on supplies so he can't eat much or drink much either.

Mum:

Phillip's mum if she is still alive will feel bad about herself that she didn't listen to her husband and put herself and Phillip in a really bad situation. She'll also be really sad because probably feel alone and misses Phillip and her husband. She'll also feel really guilty if anything happened to Phillip because it was her that wanted to leave Curacao and made Phillip come along.

Phillip:

Phillip must feel lost and alone as he is blind and probably just wants to be with his mum and dad right now where he can see. He might feel sad as he thinks his mum could be dead and he misses his dad and curcao. He also will feel hungry and thirsty as Timothy is making them ration on food and water. He also has mixed thoughts on timothy as he first off didn't like him but timothy is being kind to him.

Chapter 1-5 summary of the cay

For the past few weeks in English, we have been reading a book called the Cay and since we're in lockdown Miss Birtch has asked us to write a summary of what we remember from chapters 1-5.

There's a boy called Phillip and he lived on a small island called Curacao during WWll with his parents but when the nazi torpedoed ship on the coast his mother wanted to go back to Virginia. His father insisted it would be better to stay because they might torpedo the ship. His father eventually turned out to be right as their ship blew up and Phillip was separated from his mother. He found himself on a small raft with an old, black man called Timothy and a stew cat. Phillip had negative thoughts toward the black man because his mother was racist and he had just grew up that way. After a few days on the raft, Phillip had turned blind.

Langosta - Do NOw

They would be good because there would be plenty of them around because it's surrounded by the ocean and so it can be an easy food source and it looks good to eat.

The langosta can eat things in the water so that's how they can survive on the eating part it's also surrounded by water. It can use the sand for shelter.

Cay - Do Now

It would be hard to live on a cay because if a giant wae came it could flood the entire island and also there would be no internet there so that would be difficult if you like going on your phone or Chromebook. Also you wouldn't be able to interact with as many people as you could in a bigger island or country.

Volleyball Blog

My skills at volleyball weren't great as I couldn't receive a ball or spike a ball. My receiving has gotten a lot better and my spiking is still improving. I can receive pretty good now and serve much better. The hardest thing about playing volleyball is blocking for me because I'm short and can't jump that high. I like receiving the most in volleyball because it feels nice when you get a good receive. If I was doing P.E next year I would like to learn how to block.File:Urpo sivula.jpg - Wikimedia Commons

Week 3 - Do Now Pontoon Bridge

Pontoon bridges were created for armies to cross a river instead of walking through them. They were created by planks from small boats so they put logs in and when the whole structure of the bridge is set they then slide the planks in to create a bridge for cars to cross and people to walk on. It's reusable because people can still walk over them instead of walking the long way around the river.

English - Do Now

The schooner boat has 2 or more sails depending on how big they are. They're generally black and white and are pretty big and long they look like they are also pretty slim. If I was on one I could see from all sorts of directions which would make it a good boat for sailing. You could also hear the waves crashing upon the boat from all sides. The water would also sound pretty calm and soothing as you just sail peacefully through the water.Schooner - Wikipedia

Types of energy

In science today we are learning about types of energy and their transformations.

The 8 types of energy are:

Light energy so the energy that comes from light e.g an x-ray.

Heat energy is produced by movements from particles that are moving quickly. e.g Solar Panels

Sound energy is when particles vibrate they make sound. e.g walkie talkies

Kinetic energy is allowing anything to move e.g human muscles.

Electrical energy comes from anything that is electrical e.g wires.

Gravitational energy is found in objects high off the ground e.g a pen falling to the ground.

Chemical Potential energy is found in chemicals e.g food.

Elastic energy is found in stretched things e.g elastic bands.

Do Now Vocabulary

The German U-boat had a maximum speed on the water of 32.8 km/h and a maximum speed under the water of 14.1 km/h. The German U-boats used torpedoes and were going to try to starve Britain. They were made by an engineer called Wilheim Bauer.

I think the video is good if you're trying to learn about the german u-boats as he knows quite a lot about them and explains all of its features to the audience.
